You may feel that if you do the right thing by getting a degree or a good job than you have created a safety net for yourself. There is no such thing in this world as a safety net. It is an illusion we set up in our minds if we think that the degree that we obtained or the job that we have is going to be our “safety net” and be a child of God too. God did not design his relationship with us for us to create our own man made safety net. According to Psalm 91 it says that we are to find refuge in God and that he is to be our strength and protection.
Many people I know they think they are superman or superwoman because of the position that they have obtained in life and the degrees that they have obtained. Those are accomplishments, things that they have gotten in the past, ways to live, but now in the present are becoming their obligation and their only sense of comfort because God is not number one in their life.It is clear to see if God is at the forefront of someone’s life for me because of the sense of peace in the midst of storms that they have. There is less chaos and confusion when you serve God and know that he wants you to live a life on purpose not obligation to a degree or a position. Things can be removed, jobs eliminated, degrees become obsolete, new technologies emerge and what once made you a God unto yourself makes you worthless in your own eyes. Or they can start to feel like they are trapped into continuing to work at a job they hate or within a profession they abhor as if there is nothing else that they can do.There is something else that can be done.Release your hold on your false safety nets.Release your need to be recognized and the superhero. Let Go and Let God.Realize that the true safety you have is in your relationship with Jesus Christ. He is your lord and savior and wants you to live a satisfying life. And stand on the scripture Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me.” Then begin to do what makes you truly happy and live out your purpose.
