The Power Of Silent Protest by Lady Charmaine Day

For my entire childhood, teenage years, twenties and early thirties, I did not understand Martin Luther King Jr. I could not understand how he was able to so calmly, professionally and smoothly maintain a stance of non-violence in the direct light of violence against himself, the people following him and his family. It wasn't until I casually said to someone when I was angry the following statement did I realize what he was doing. I was working as the head of human resources in a very unprofessional environment. One of my co-workers who was pregnant was harassed by a couple of workers on the job. One of the people who stressed her out I walked up to and I said in a very calm voice "I feel sorry for you.I am going to pray for you. I am going to pray that the God I serve avenge me in this situation. I pray that you never feel a day a peace until you apologize to this woman sincerely and leave her alone. And I pray that you never forget this lesson and change your wicked ways." The woman just started to shake. She said Ms. Day, Ms. Day please stop. Please don't pray. Please don't pray. I walked away.
I went back to my office. I sat down. Then people came running into my office asking me what did I do to her. I said nothing. I said I would pray for her to change her wicked ways. They said the woman was admitted into the emergency room screaming and seizuring.
That made me think. I got really scared. Up until this point I never saw a direct correlation between silent protest for justice, and the power of prayer. I was humbled by it.
From that day forward I promised to watch my words.
And to be careful about my prayers, God listens.
I knew that God sees me, hears me and does take action when it comes to me.
I know he does that for me and he does that and more for you.
Today, I am more mature in my walk as a Christian. I wouldn't walk up to someone and tell them I am praying for them. I would just pray silently for God to intervene in the situation, take away my anger and for the best outcome to happen. And then I show up, without stress, worry or concern and let God handle the rest.

People have seen other people yell and scream at me and me not raise my voice. React. I hear them out. Then I patiently respond and remain professional. People ask me don't I feel weak? Don't I get angry? Don't I want to punch the person in the face? And I say to them, I am not in charge of this situation, God is. God has never failed me and he will avenge me in this situation. And you will see it. And sure as my legal maiden name is Charmaine Day justice comes to pass.

So if you find yourself in the midst of a situation where someone is attacking you, don't think that there isn't power in prayer. Your prayer is the most powerful weapon that you can evoke. Its power reaches beyond this situation and sometimes generations in terms of outcomes. You are not a victim but victorious.
On another note of silent protest, I am boycotting the NFL by not watching any football games or sports commentary on football because the NFL owners have not hired Colin Kaepernick because of his silent protest against police brutality and racism. I realized that right now I am witnessing a man who took a righteous stand be persecuted as a result. That's not right. I will continue to boycott until Colin Kaepernick is gainfully employed as a quarterback in the NFL.
I am praying for Colin's protest against police brutality and racism to bring changes in America.
Colin Kaepernick is our generations Muhammad Ali.

There is power in prayer.
There is power in silent protest.

Sincerely,
: )
