Mental illness doesn't discriminate.
It can happen to anyone.
With everything going on, those with a mental illness are hit hardest. Often feeling panic attacks, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts because of these dark days. Dealing with mental issues for those unaffected is almost impossible to understand and can require a change in attitudes, assumptions and ideas. For all concerned, this barrier can best be lifted by those who live with it. NAMI’s NYC-Metro’s In Our Own Voice presentations do the job. Leaders with lived experience talk openly in presentations, about what it's like to have a mental health condition. Their presentations provide a change of attitude, assumptions and ideas about people with mental health conditions and offer:
● An opportunity to hear open and honest perspectives on a highly misunderstood topic
● A chance to ask leaders questions, allowing for a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and dispelling of stereotypes and misconceptions
● The understanding that people with mental health conditions have lives enriched by hopes, dreams and goals
● Information on how to learn more about mental health and get involved with the mental health community
Leading the crusade is Lady Charmaine Day, Pastor, Published Author and Mental Health Advocate who provides important food for thought for all who watch this incredible woman's presentation. She shared her story last Thursday, June 11th, 7pm virtually as part of NAMI NYC Metro's Summer Showcase of their In Our Own Voice Program. Click on the link above to see this inspiring presentation.
